As a business owner, innovator, and someone looking to grow, you appreciate mistakes happen from time-to-time. It comes with the territory of pushing boundaries and doing what the vast majority don’t, but that isn’t to say you can’t transform even your biggest business mistake into your greatest success yet.
After interviewing 163 successful business owners for my latest book, I’ve learned it’s this ability to turn bad into good that sets them apart.
Lucky for you, this isn’t a skill or mindset reserved for a few, instead something you can bring into your own business starting today. It begins by avoiding 3 rather simple mistakes, although they might not be what you imagine…
1: STOP FOCUSING ON TODAY
You’re a business owner with a never ending to-do list, and there isn’t a day goes by where you don’t have to fix something in the here-and-now.
This sounds familiar, right?
Of course it does, and successful business owners always take care of the most important tasks… BUT they never forget about tomorrow, and the day after, and that all important vision.
Focusing on today is a small mistake that manifests into a giant failure because you lose sight of what you’re doing all this for. As such, you make poor decisions for the wrong reasons, and hardship often follows.
2: STOP HIDING YOUR FEARS & FAILURES
I appreciate the romantic notion of a successful business owner includes a brave and hard-nosed individual, but this stereotype couldn’t be further from the truth.
Successful people share their pain with those around them, not searching for sympathy, rather accepting they cannot fix their issues on their own.
Whether this involves talking to your family, friends, or colleagues, it’s important your honest and open as often as you can — especially when it hurts.
3: STOP PROCRASTINATING!
I believe every single person on the planet procrastinates, and I don’t mean watching another episode from Netflix instead of working. Oh no, when I say you need to stop procrastinating, I mean you must stop putting off decisions and pretending issues don’t exist.
Ultimately, success in business comes down to good decision making, and sometimes good decision making requires you to make a tough one – or admit you were wrong.
Stop putting the things off you need to do today. Stop thinking your issues will fix themselves. Stop it, and get back to work!
