As I mentioned last week, it’s been quite a year. At this time of the year, I receive loads of family letters with highlights during the year, so here goes our celebration of our Traklight milestones and accomplishments. We share our success with all the Trakers, our amazing Advisory Board, and supporters.
Funding
After securing state bank debt funding support from the Arizona Innovation Acceleration Fund (AIAF), we opened a round of seed funding. Our successful raise was featured in TechCrunch and we added $85K to this to raise a total of $435,000. As we go into 2015, we are excited that we converted to a C corporation with the new name – Traklight, Inc.
Relaunched Traklight software applications
We relaunched our website for the third time this March and completely re-launched our software platform.
Not only did the user experience become that of a “Turbo Tax†for intellectual property (IP) identification, we added new reports, charts, and the ability to self-manage registered IP. Later in the Fall we expanded the self-guided questionnaire beyond intangible assets and IP to include foundational questions for early stage companies and planning for businesses.
Additionally, our IP Vault now has four options and (as of last week) we have our own shopping cart —not to mention the Basic Vault is free! Our file sharing and storage system allows for businesses to affordably and securely share files with time-stamping and trade secret protection.
Spreading the word about intangible assets
Definite highlights were some TV appearances: first on MSNBC with JJ Ramberg (not once but twice!) and then on AZ 8 as a crowdfunding expert. I also spoke at SXSW V2V, LAUNCH, and various other very exciting venues. Collaborating with fellow Legal Tech founder Jules Miller of Hire an Esquire on Evolve Law and the Legal Tech Toolkit was not only good business but a ton of fun!
Sharing our knowledge and experience around the need to identify intellectual property or intangibles in order to ensure ownership and protection seems to be growing in popularity and I am honored to contribute regularly to FORBES.com and ABA Legal Technology Today .
Partnerships
We were excited to continue working with organizations like the United Inventors Association, Small Business Development Centers of America, National Business Incubator Association, Indiegogo plus many more.
Just this month we announced collaboration with Legal Zoom, Unified Patents, Solo Practice University, and WayFounder. To strengthen our focus on ensuring that businesses succeed, we are working on many partnerships with not only attorneys and legal technology platforms but large software providers ranging from investment platforms to accounting systems to educational platforms.
Next Steps
Shhh… but we are feverishly working on a complete website/branding redesign and some integrations with some legal technology partners.
